Andrew Ramsay Tops Youngster Finals at WEF

Andrew Ramsay headlined the $20,000 Spy Coast Farm 7 Year Old DJS Classic final with Dutch-bred Gerlos on Friday, March 23, 2017 at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, USA. Lexy Reed began the morning by winning the $10,000 Gut Einhaus 5 Year Old DJS Classic with the Hanoverian gelding Coppertone by Vascount.

In the the $15,000 Spy Coast Farm 6 Year Old DJS Classic, Irelandís Daniel Coyle took Lothlorien Farmís Khaleesi to the top of the class, showing great consistency with the gelding by Gaillard de la Pomme after winning the 5 Year Old division this time last year at WEF.

Ramsay, who has been campaigning Shallano Farmís newly crowned 7 year old winner for a year and a half, was thrilled with winning the competitive class in which the top 25 finishers in the division were invited back. He found Gerlos, a KWPN gelding by Der Senaat III x Cicero Z Van Paemel, through Alan Waldman in 2016.

ďHe has such a good head Ė things donít rattle him and I think thatís so important with a horse that has the ability,Ē Ramsay said of Gerlos. ďHeís sound, heís careful, heís fast, he has all the traits. And on top of all of that the brain is there, and it makes it really nice to play around and have fun, and see where it all goes.Ē
